Overview

Peru’s massive mountains are bright blue, turquoise, green, and even red lakes tucked into the valleys. One of the top spots is Humantay Lake in the Cusco region (3,400 m / 11,150 ft). This stunner sits at 4,200 m / 13,780 ft, with emerald-green water that glows under the icy white Humantay Glacier. Trust me, photos don’t cut it—you gotta see this place in person.

Whether you’re rolling solo, with your crew, or joining a group, this trek’s a no-brainer. We handle the logistics so you can just soak it all in. Don’t skip this if you’re in Cusco—it’s a must-do for adventure junkies.

Humantay Lake is one of Peru’s best-kept secrets, chilling in the highlands below two sacred peaks: Salkantay and Humantay. Locals call these mountains Apus (Andean gods), and the vibe here is straight-up magical. The lake’s unreal color against the snow feels like stepping into a fantasy flick.

Your day kicks off with a scenic drive to the trailhead, a pit stop at our exclusive Sky Camp, and a hike to the lake. You’ll have time to veg out, snap pics, and crush a hearty lunch before heading back.

We’ve got your back—transport, meals, and a pro guide are all sorted. Just show up ready for an epic day in the Andes. Let’s do this!

Itinerary

DAY 1:

Cusco → Mollepata → Soraypampa → Sky Camp → Humantay Lake

Kick off your day early with a 4:00 a.m. pickup from your hotel in Cusco. We’ll drive 2.5 hours to Mollepata (2,900 m / 9,514 ft), where you’ll visit our organic avocado farm and from where we get our vegetables to our breakfast and lunch, snap pics of the sunrise hitting the mountains. Pro tip: Grab a coca tea here—it helps with altitude.

Next, we’ll cruise to Soraypampa (3,900 m / 12,795 ft). This is where the glaciers flex their power—their icy faces are no joke. Your guide will brief you on the hike, then we’ll start the 2-hour climb to Humantay Lake.

The trail’s rocky and steep in spots, so trekking poles are clutch. Go slow, take breaks, and hydrate—altitude can sneak up on you. Stick to the “leave no trace” rule: pack out trash and skip single-use plastics.

At the top, Humantay Lake hits you like a ton of bricks. The water’s this crazy turquoise from glacier melt, and you can scramble up the rocks for even wilder views. Higher up = bluer water and 360° panoramas.

This place is sacred, so our guide will do a quick pago a la tierra (offering to Mother Earth) with coca leaves. Respect the vibe—it’s a special moment.

After chilling at the lake, we’ll hike down (about 1.5 hours) to Sky Camp for a killer lunch—think quinoa stew, grilled chicken, or veggie options. Then, we’ll drive back to Cusco, dropping you at your hotel by 6:30 p.m.
