This Ausangate Trek thing is really something you should do when you come to Peru you know? It’s like three days going up and down mountains seeing crazy lagoons and you end up at Rainbow Mountain that mountain with all the colors.

This trek Ausangate and Rainbow Mountain trip is not easy man it’s high up and lots of steep parts but hey we got a good team. Porters guides and cooks they know their stuff they make sure you are okay on the trail you know?

Itinerary

DAY 1:

Cusco – Pukutuni School – Pucaccocha Camp

We pick you up for the Ausangate Trek super early like 4 in the morning yeah? Then it’s a drive about three hours to Pukutuni School trailhead. Trailhead is at 13780 feet (4200 meters) altitude so already high up! We eat breakfast there get to meet the team the chef porters horse guys all of them. Then we start hiking for like three hours to Upis village where we have lunch. Upis village is at the foot of Ausangate Mountain you know big mountain. After lunch we go uphill for another maybe one and half hours to Vicuña Pass. Vicuña Pass is about 15912 feet high (4850 meters) then about three more hours to Pucaccocha campsite for the night. Pucaccocha is at 15091 feet (4600 meters) altitude. On the way you see amazing views of valleys waterfalls glacier mountains all that stuff.

Wake up early have good breakfast for energy. Then we keep hiking Ausangate Trek about two hours uphill to Condor Pass. Condor Pass is like 16076 feet high (4900 meters). On the way man amazing views of Ausangate mountain and lagoons you will take photos for sure. Maybe we see llamas alpacas around too you know? Then it’s downhill walk for about two hours to lunch spot. After lunch we go up again a little bit to Alpaca Pass. Alpaca Pass is 16240 feet (4950 m). From there you can see a little bit of Rainbow Mountain first look! Magical moment for sure on Ausangate tour. Then one more hour downhill hike to campsite for tonight Sororni Lake Camp. Sororni Lake Camp is at 15419 feet (4700m) altitude. This campsite is super beautiful you can see all the stars at night Andean sky is something else.

Sleeping in mountains means we get to Rainbow Mountain super early before the crowds come. Yes! Have good breakfast hot drinks to get going. Then hike about two hours slowly uphill to Rainbow Mountain. On the way maybe see wild vicuñas those are cool animals. When you get to Rainbow Mountain views are wow! Because we are early you can take great photos all the colors amazing. Your guide will tell you about colors minerals all that stuff. When you are done taking photos and enjoying the view we walk downhill for one hour to end of trail. Say bye to trekking team chef porters horse guys thanks for everything. From there only with your guide we drive three hours back to Cusco city.

  • Real Pro Guides: Guides are from Cusco studied English and tourism at university. They grew up here know the mountains well. They like to teach about Peru history and culture. Fun guys but professional make sure you are safe happy always.
  • Trek Briefing: Night before trek we meet at office 6:30 PM for briefing with your guide. You get duffel bag for your stuff sleeping bag air mattress things like that. Duffel bag should have your sleeping bag and air mattress (ours are light 2.5 kg and 1 kg). Porters carry duffel bags you only see them at campsite morning and evening. Daypack for things you need when hiking.
  • Porters and Horsemen: We include personal porter to carry your duffel bag. No extra cost for this. You get duffel bag at briefing night before put your stuff for night and day after. You don’t see duffel bag again until campsite evening.
  • Emergency Horse: For all our treks we have extra horse in case someone needs to rest from hiking.
  • Transportation: All transport is included yeah. Pick up from your hotel around 4:30 AM to trailhead. After trek finish drive back to your hotel in Cusco drop you off.
  • Equipment Top Quality: We use good equipment Eureka Timberline tents for 4 people but only two people share one tent. Big dining tent for meals comfortable.
  • Food is Good: Our chefs cook tasty meals everyone loves it. We take care of food needs tell us if you have any when you book and tell your guide at briefing too. Food is like family style sharing. Breakfast lunch dinner every day of trek plus tea time happy hour snacks. Snack every morning for hiking too. Last meal with chef is breakfast day four. Lunch last day not included.
  • Water All Provided: From first lunch to last breakfast we give you all water you need. Water is boiled filtered cooled before we give you. You need your own water bottles or camelback. Bring like 3 liters is good. You can refill water at every meal stop.
  • First Aid Ready: All guides trained in first aid by doctor. We do training every February for all guides must attend. Your guide has first-aid kit for small problems you know traveler’s diarrhea cuts things like that and oxygen too. If big problem we get you off mountain fast get to clinic for help.
  • Little Extras Make Difference: We think small things important. Everyone gets small pillow for sleeping foam mattress for soft ground day pack cover for rain and rain poncho also. We try hard to make your best trip ever.
